The customer wanted to measure the displacement of the ID Fan Shaft at both bearings. The journals were supported by Dodge Sleevoil Bearings. CMS Removable Probe Mounts were attached using the integral rare earth magnets 90 degrees apart as shown in the photos.

A laser tachometer was used to generate a once-per-revolution signal sensing white paint on the shaft.

The shaft orbit data at the drive end was very flat indicating vertical misalignment between the fan shaft and the fluid coupling.

Note that the shaft has rust which can degrade the quality of shaft vibration data. In preparation for attaching the removable mount; fine abrasive belting was used to polish the shaft surface sensed by the proximity probes.
